Description

The FT-1 Mount Adapter allows you to use certain legacy F-Mount NIKKOR lenses (those designed for use with Nikon D-SLR/SLR cameras) on the Nikon 1 advanced cameras with interchangeable lenses. The Mount Adapter is attached to the Nikon 1 camera and the F-Mount NIKKOR lens then attached to the adapter. The FT-1 will add an angle of view of 2.7 times that of the F-Mount NIKKOR lens' focal length.

Supports over 80 F-mount NIKKOR lenses

To use the FT-1, the Nikon 1 camera's firmware must be updated to at least version 1.10.

F-mount lenses mounted on the FT-1 have a crop factor of 2.7×. Enjoy an angle of view equivalent to that of a super telephoto lens when a telephoto lens is used. (Example: When using a 300mm lens, the equivalent angle of view is that of an 800mm lens.)

AF/AE supported with AF-S lenses only. Autofocusing is possible when AF-S lenses are used. Focus mode must be set to AF-S (Single AF) and AF-area mode is fixed at Single-point with only the center focus point used.

As of June 2013, we have updated Nikon 1 camera firmware as well as FT-1 Firmware to support AF-C, (Continuous autofocus). Please check support.nikonusa.com for more information on firmware updates.

When using the FT-1 and a compatible AF-S NIKKOR F-Mount lens, users can take full advantage of the Nikon 1's high-speed continuous shooting of 10/30/60 fps. (*When an AF-S lens is used. However, focus is locked with the first shot with continuous shooting.)

The focus indicator (rangefinder) can be used with CPU lenses.

[P], [S], [A], and [M] exposure modes can be used with CPU lenses.

Autofocus may be less precise when Shutter-priority auto, Aperture-priority auto, or Manual is selected for Exposure mode. Focus manually if you have trouble using autofocus. With some lenses the focus distance indicator may not display the actual distance to the subject or the minimum focus distance may increase.

[A] and [M] exposure modes can be used with non-CPU lenses. Aperture is specified using the aperture ring on the lens.

Vibration reduction (VR) functions when VR lenses are used. Enable vibration reduction, or specify a setting, using switches on the lens. NORMAL/ACTIVE modes are supported when lenses equipped with these modes are used. VR functions in NORMAL mode when lenses not equipped with the NORMAL/ACTIVE modes are used.

Shooting in Motion Snapshot mode is only possible when focus has been acquired with an AF-S lens.

Key Features

The FT1 mount adapter allows NIKKOR F mount lenses to be used with Nikon 1 cameras equipped with a Nikon 1 mount. The angle of view of an F mount lens mounted on the FT1 is equivalent to that of a 35mm format lens with a focal length about 2.7 x longer.
The FT1 can be used with more than 80 lenses, representing almost all the NIKKOR lenses currently on the market(*1).
It almost goes without saying that it also supports autoexposure/autofocus(*2) and vibration reduction(*3). Electronic rangefinding is available in manual focus mode. You can also explore the new forms of expression offered by the Nikon 1's unique Motion Snapshot mode(*4).

  • *1DX-format F-mount NIKKOR lenses can also be used with the FT1 mount adapter. IX-NIKKOR lenses, AF lenses for the F3AF, non-AI lenses, teleconverters, and auto extension rings cannot be used.
  • *2Autofocus is available only with AF-S, AF-P lenses; other lenses support manual focus only. Set the camera focus mode to AF-S (the camera will not focus in other autofocus modes). The only AF-area mode available is Single-point AF and the camera focuses on the subject in the center focus point only.
  • *3Available with VR lenses. Vibration reduction is always ON when shooting with a VR lens that has no Vibration reduction ON/OFF switch.
  • *4Motion Snapshots can be recorded only when an AF-S or AF-P lens is attached and AF-S (Single AF) is selected for focus mode and then only when the camera is in focus. Available only when autofocus is used with AF-S lenses.

Other Notices and Restrictions

  • Optional Speedlights and a built-in flash can be used, however with some lenses, vignetting may occur. Take test shots prior to shooting.
  • Subject tracking is not supported.
  • With some lenses, the focus distance indicator may not display the actual distance to the subject or the minimum focus distance may increase.
  • Do not point the camera to strong light such as direct sunlight during shooting as it may damage the inner parts.
  • When using the adapter with lenses weighing over 380 g (13.4 oz), support the lens when holding the camera and do not use the camera strap. Otherwise the camera's lens mount may be damaged.
  • When shooting with autofocus, set focus mode to AF-S or AF-C. Other focus mode cannot be used.
  • In continuous shooting, when setting a frame rate of [5 fps] (or [Silent photography: OFF] with V2, or a frame rate of [6 fps] with V3), the actual frame rate may decrease. When the shutter system is set to [Electronic (Hi)] in still-image mode, the frame rate will not change.
  • When using telephoto lenses equipped with a tripod collar, attach the tripod to the lens tripod collar rather than to the adapter tripod socket.
  • Keep the sun well out of the frame when shooting backlit subjects.
  • If lenses will not be used for an extended period, attach the front and rear lens caps and store out of direct sunlight.
